‘The God Of Cricket’ Flags-Off Kolkata Full Marathon

Kolkata: The “God Of Cricket” flagged of the second IDBI Federal Life Insurance Kolkata Full Marathon on Sunday at the Red Road. The marathon contestants gathered near the stage to get a glimpse of the Master Blaster. Sachin was present to motivate the runners at the start and finish points, an said by the sources earlier.

Reportedly, over 8,000 participants competed across four categories in the full marathon, half marathon, 10K and 5K races, carrying a prize purse of Rs 10 lakhs.

The full marathon witnessed 800 runners, followed by 1500 runners participating in the half marathon. Like last year, the Red Road served as both the start and finish point for the marathon as the runners passed through city’s iconic Eden Gardens, Victoria Memorial, Kolkata High Court, St Paul’s Cathedral among others.

Fans cheers for the “God Of Cricket”, the Sachinnn…. Sachinnn…! slogan created a grandeur at the Red Road, this filled the legendary cricketer with enthusiasim and love he reciprocated them by greeting them in Bengali, he said “Kolkata, kemon achho?”. To motivate the participants of marathon Sachin also clicked selfies with them. Sports Minister Arup Biswas and MLA of Bidhannagar Sujeet Basu was also present at this ceremony.

Sachin was found shaking hands and giving autographs to the contestants. Some participants also carried Sachin’s autobiography with them at the event to sign it by him. 

“In today’s era everyone has to be aware of health. Thank you to those who organized such a Marathon event. I feel proud to be present at such an event. Hope people will participate more in this kind of marathon event,’ says the Master Blaster while concluding the event.
