Kolkata: Stirring another controversy and highlighting the fissures in TMC ranks, Tapan Dasgupta the chairman of borough No-10 of Ward No-95, under Kolkata Municipality prevented municipality officials from demolishing an illegally constructed house in his area.
Launching his bombshell, Dasgupta said, instead of targeting the common people municipality should demolish Housing Development Minister Arup Biswas’s house, which is also illegally constructed.
The blatant statement of Dasgupta has sparked controversy and highlighted the conflicts in TMC ranks. On the other hand Dasgupta by preventing the demolition work is in contempt of court, as the demolition was ordered by Calcutta High Court.
On the other hand speculations are that Tapan Dasgupta might have been trying to tap public sentiment and is playing vote bank politics, as many of the houses in the area are illegally constructed.
On the other hand, Tapan Dasgupta’s outburst is seemed to be an act of revenge against Mayor Shovan Chatterjee as the Mayor had allegedly blocked Dasgupta’s nomination as a member of Mayoral Council.
