Kalimpong: In the wee hours of Saturday the GJM supporters set ablaze at the Jaldhaka’s Ranga Police outpost of Kalimpong.
The outlet has been completely destroyed due to the incident. The miscreants also set fire on the Garidhura library of Kalimpong. Though the GJM supporters denied the allegation but speculations were there that the protesters will start a fresh violence in the hills. They have also decided to move out from the Gorkhaland Movement Coordination Committee (GMCC).
Earlier the Bengal’s Criminal Investigation Department (CID) froze the bank accounts of top three leaders of the Gorkha Janmukti Morcha (GJM) to trace their source of funds. The GJM leaders whose accounts have been frozen include Morcha’s president Bimal Gurung, Roshan Giri and Binay Tamang.
Darjeeling is witnessing unrest since June 12 when the GJM announced an indefinite strike to protest against the West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee’s decision to make Bengali compulsory for all schools in the state. The protestors are asking for a separate Gorkhaland, a long pending demand of the people of the hills.
