Army Redeployed After Police Outpost, Toy Train Station Set Afire


Update: The Army was on Saturday redeployed in Darjeeling hills after fresh violence broke out at Sonada where Gorkhaland supporters torched a police outpost and a toy train station after a youth was killed in alleged police firing on Friday night.

Darjeeling: GJM alleges their supporter Tashi Bhutia was shot dead in Sonada (Outskirts of Darjeeling) by Police on Friday night at about 11 PM.

Gorkhaland supporters have taken out a rally with dead body of Tashi Bhutia. Supporters are protesting outside Sonada police station. GJM says Darjeeling Police has accepted FIR & murder case will be initiated & action taken against policemen involved in Sonada firing.

Meanwhile, reports have emerged that people of various age groups are roaming the streets of Darjeeling and raiding houses of shop owners. The motley groups are also targeting cars reportedly in quest of food.

Residents have allegedly started looting shop. The GJM on Thursday announced that it has extended its indefinite strike till July 18
