GJM Activist Barun Bhujel Dies In Captivity


Kolkata, Kalimpong: Barun Bhujel, elected member of the Kalimpong Municipality and local committee member of Gorkha Janmukti Morcha (GJM), passes away at SSKM hospital early on Wednesday morning, while still in captivity.

Bhujel was arrested by West Bengal Police in August in connection with the unrest in Darjeeling and was lodged in Siliguri jail. He was a patient of liver and pancreas but his health condition was allegedly neglected by police in jail. Recently, when his ailment took a severe turn, he was taken to North Bengal hospital in Siliguri. He was shifted to Kolkata on Tuesday and was in put on the ventilator.

He was ward commissioner of Ward No 16, Eastman Road, Kalimpong.
