Darjeeling: After arresting Gorkha Janmukti Morcha leader Gita Tamang for vandalising government property and torching public vehicles, Darjeeling Police has now filed cases against other Morcha leaders and activists in the wake of recent clashes.
Police have taken many Morcha leaders into custody. GJM leaders Binay Tamang and Anit Thapara claim that they are trying to restore normalcy in the hilly region and say they are urging the locals to maintain peace. But despite this, the Morcha continues to carry on its agitation.
Darjeeling Police arrested Gita Tamang from Tindharia on charges of attacking cops in Mirik and Sukna, destroying government property in many parts of the hill state.
The Morcha leaders have been arrested so that no untoward incident takes place.
Today, Gita Tamang will be taken to the Siliguri subdivision court. Morcha leader Gita Tamang has alleged that she was fired at, denying charges of being involved in any act of arson or vandalism. The police, however, claim that she has been seen in every incident and was leading from the front.
