Kolkata: After a delay of 86 days, Kolkata police on Monday filed chargesheet in the Girish Park shootout case at the Bankshal court. In the 300 page chargesheet police named 19 people including prime accused Goplal Tiwari of orchestrating the attack.
Sub-Inspector Jagannath Mondal was shot by trinamool goons at Girish Park during the municipal polls on April. Out of the 19 people named in the chargesheet 8 people are still absconding.
Police blamed TMC-Congress clashes for the shootout. Gopal Tiwari has been accused as the prime instigator of the crime and is also held responsible for supplying the arms and crude bombs.
Although police blamed Trinamool goons for the shootout in the chargesheet, no names of any Trinamool leader appeared in the file. On the other hand opposition parties blamed police for shielding the Trinamool leaders harbouring criminals.
