Gigantic Asteroid To Hit Earth Tonight

Washington: The newly-discovered space rock named BS32 is expected to zoom past our planet at around 8.30pm. It will be travelling at a distance of 161,280km away from civilization. According to NASA the chunk of rock is a whopping 25m wide and belongs to the Aten group of asteroids.

More than 1,000 Atens have been discovered and many have been classified as potentially hazardous. The asteroid will be travelling at 11.57 kilometres per second when it speeds past Earth tonight.

Stargazers say it’s the fourth Near Earth Object to pass very close to earth in the past month. Earlier this week an asteroid just missed smashing into our planet — and nobody realised.

It was the third near-miss in just over two weeks, after an asteroid the size of a tower block almost smashed into Earth on January 9.

All three close encounters were only spotted by science boffs shortly before they passed their closes point to Earth.
