Kolkata: The Council for the Indian School Certificate Examination (CISCE) will have compartmental exams from 2019, giving a section of unsuccessful ICSE and ISC candidates another chance to pass the Class-X and Class XII board exams without having to wait for a year.
Council CEO and secretary Gerry Arathoon on Friday announced that Class X board exam candidates would get to know individual scores for every subject (instead of their average score for group of subjects).
Compartmental exams will be held in the third week of July every year and results will be published in August. Class XII examinees, who pass in English and two other subjects, can write the compartmental exam if they fail in the fourth subject; Class X examinees, who pass English and three other subjects can write these compartmental exam if they fail in the fifth subject.
“This is the first time we are introducing compartmental exams as we want to give unsuccessful students one more shot at passing the board exams without waiting for a year,” Council CEO Arathoon said.
