New Delhi: President Pranab Mukherjee on Thursday nominated two members of the Anglo-Indian community, Prof Richard Hay and George Baker, to the Lok Sabha.
Prof Hay, 63, a well-known teacher in Kerala, has taught at and headed several renowned institutions in India and abroad. He is a strong advoacte of training for teachers and accreditation for educational institutions at all levels. Baker, 68, is an actor who has appeared in Bengali and Assamese movies since the late 1970s. He joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in 2014, contested and lost the 2014 Lok Sabha elections from the Howrah constituency in West Bengal.
The Lok Sabha has 545 members in all, 543 of whom are elected by the people and two members who are nominated by the President from the Anglo-Indian community.
