Geneva: Geneva police have increased a deployment at the Swiss city’s airport and are conducting a sweep of identity papers and other checks after receiving a tip-off in connection with an investigation in neighboring France.

Police spokesman Sylvain Guillaume-Gentil says the enhanced measures are not linked to the hostage-taking and killing of a priest at a church in Normandy on Tuesday, but would not comment further.

On its Facebook page, the Geneva police department said Wednesday the measures are linked to ‘information received’ that is being verified amid current enhanced security with threats and concerns facing many parts of Europe.

Traffic in and around the airport was backlogged and travelers were told to expect delays. Police did said the extra measures would be lifted gradually.

‘In terms of security, Geneva Airport goes back to the previous situation, an increased police presence in the airport due to the international situation.’
