Gangasagar Mahant Opposes ‘Ram Mandir’ Construction

Kolkata: The chief ‘Mahant’ at Kapil Muni temple of holy Gangasagar in South 24 Paraganas had protested Ram Mandir push by VHP-RSS at the disputed Ayodhya site. The mahant said he is against any ‘bloodshed’ that too for a construction of a temple.

“I don’t want any bloodshed over the temple construction. Let the temple be washed with milk instead,” mahant Gyandas said on Tuesday, weeks before lakhs of devotees from across the country are expected to flock Gangasagar mela to take a holy dip on Makar Sakranti on January 14.

Opposing the VHP and BJP’s narrative on Ram Mandir, Mahant said, “I don’t subscribe to the views of BJP MP Vinay Katiyar or former VHP leader Ashok Singhal. VHP is lying.”

Mahant Gyandas instead harped on humanism as the true religion and lauded WB Chief minister Mamata Banerjee for championing it. “The CM has done a lot for the pilgrims during the last six years. She has become a symbol of humanism. I have nothing more to ask from her,” the mahant said minutes after the CM left the temple after offering prayers at the Kapil Muni temple.
