Kolkata: The state government has also decided to bring Ganga Sagar visitors under an insurance scheme of Rs 5 lakh each. A high-level meeting held at Nabanna also discussed the preparations and other aspects that need to be maintained during the Ganga Sagar Mela that will be held from January 10 to 16 next year.
Ministers including state Panchayat minister Subrata Mukherjee, state PWD minister Aroop Biswas, state Urban Development and Municipal Affairs minister Firhad Hakim will be supervising the entire arrangement during the event in which lakhs of people turn up every year. Directions have been given to set up a permanent bus stand and also to ensure that no unnecessary congestion takes place.
The state Irrigation department has also been directed in Friday’s meeting to carry out dredging work at different locations on Muri Ganga to ensure easy movement of the vessels. The state Civil Defence department will also place speed boats and other arrangements to combat if any untoward situation arises.
