Future Airports to be Named After Cities, Not Personalities

New Delhi: The Narendra Modi led NDA government has decided that no more future airports will be named after personalities, but only cities where they will be built, reported NDTV.

Terminals within the airports can be named after freedom fighters. The move is meant to avoid controversy related to naming of the airports, a source said.

At present, a controversy is brewing over the Chandigarh airport — the Punjab government wants it to be named after martyr Bhagat Singh. But Haryana’s BJP government wants it to be named after party leader Mangal Sein.

The Centre will take a call on the issue in another 10 days, sources said.
