Kolkata: The Full Bench Election Commission held a meeting at 3pm on Friday to discuss measures for a free and fair poll in the fourth phase of West Bengal Assembly polls 2016 with the state CEO, through video conference.
Keeping the violence of the phase 3 Bengal assembly polls in mind, the discussion on the way to conduct the phase 4 elections was the main focus in Friday’s important meeting.
The state’s chief electoral officer Sunil Gupta participated through the process of video conferencing with all the members of the election commission. The Chief Electoral Officer, Nasim Zaidi was present in the meeting. The Police Chief and other important officials took part with the complete bench of commission’s officials.
Preparation of the phase 4 assembly polls and what safety measures must be adopted to ensure a free and fair election were discussed. The complaints, filed by the oppositions, in the phase 3 polls allegedly against the ruling party were also taken into consideration.
Nasim Zaidi had asked for a complete report from CEO Sunil Gupta, on the Domkol violence in Murshidabad, on Thursday, where a CPM activist died.
The EC rescheduled its IAS officers on Friday. South 24 Parganas DM P.B. Salim was removed; North 24 Parganas Superintendent of Police was removed. Abanindra Kumar Singh and IPS office Annappa were appointed to the now-vacant posts, respectively.
