FTII students gherao Director over ‘assessment’ of projects

Pune: The students of Film and Television Institute of India (FTII) gheraoed the FTII Director Prashant Pathrabe in his office on Monday evening.

An explanation was demanded by the students about the ongoing ‘assesment’ of incomplete diploma film projects of the 2008 batch on orders from the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting.

Pathrabe, who was inside the FTII campus office along with the students confirmed that he was safe. The students who are on a strike over the appointment of BJP leader Gajendra Chauhan as the Chairman of the FTII called the assessment of the film projects of the 2008 batch as ‘irrational and unjustified’ since the work was incomplete in the absence of audiography and editing.

The FTII Students' Association (FSA) has alleged that the move was politically motivated and aimed at getting rid of about 50 inmates belonging to the 2008 batch on the ground of "overstaying" due to incomplete projects.
