Jalpaiguri: Almost after spending 35 years of her life in various rickety circuses and playing to the tunes of her trainer for survival ‘Champa’ a female elephant made it to the ranks of government employees.
Champa will be appointed as the staff elephant number twelve at the Gorumara National Park in the Doars on Monday. She was inducted as a staff of the national park after being rescued from a circus following an order from the Calcutta High Court.
As a government employee Champa will get an accommodation as well as medical facilities including all benefits till the age of 60. Earlier the forest department officials were apprehensive of Champa’s ability to adjust to the wild after being spending decades in the circus, but Champa adjusted to her natural habitat quite easily.
