Kolkata: Continuing the upward streak, the prices of petrol and diesel hiked again on Monday, hitting an all-time high in Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata and Chennai.
The price of petrol in Kolkata is 16 paisa increased. A litre of petrol is selling at Rs 82.22 in Kolkata. Diesel rates on Tuesday was hiked by 19 paise a litre.
The fuel prices have been on fire since the beginning of August due to rising crude oil prices and low value of rupee against the US dollar. The price of Brent crude oil went up to $78.05 per barrel on Tuesday from $77.37 per barrel on Monday.
The government has been under immense pressure to cut excise on fuel as the prices have breached the previous record high hit on May 29. The opposition has also launched an attack on the BJP government over the rising fuel prices.
