Paris: French film ‘Dheepan’, parts of which have been shot in Tamil Nadu will be unveiled in the Competition Section of the 68th Cannes International Film Festival.

The last Indian film to compete at the prestigious gala was Shaji N Karun’s ‘Swaham’ in 1994. However, it turned out that ‘Dheepan’ is a movie having an Indian connection. A Portion of ‘Dheepan’ is based on the journey of a Sri Lankan Tamil warrior who migrates to Paris at a very young age. Places where the portions of the film were shot include Rameshwaram, Mandapam and Ooty. The movie also stars Chennai-based theater based artist Kalieaswari Srinivasan in a pivotal role.cannes-2
