Paris: French film ‘Dheepan’, parts of which have been shot in Tamil Nadu will be unveiled in the Competition Section of the 68th Cannes International Film Festival.
The last Indian film to compete at the prestigious gala was Shaji N Karun’s ‘Swaham’ in 1994. However, it turned out that ‘Dheepan’ is a movie having an Indian connection. A Portion of ‘Dheepan’ is based on the journey of a Sri Lankan Tamil warrior who migrates to Paris at a very young age. Places where the portions of the film were shot include Rameshwaram, Mandapam and Ooty. The movie also stars Chennai-based theater based artist Kalieaswari Srinivasan in a pivotal role.
Suresh Balaje of ‘Wide Angle Creation’ who collaborated with Paris-based Company stated, “We have great production talent in India and some of the finest film shooting locations. I’m very confident that India can make a global footprint with its production strengths.”
The festival is scheduled to be held from May 13 to 24.
