Four people die as Assam’s flood situation worsens

Dispur: Assam flood situation worsened on Saturday with four more death being reported in the state and nearly 6.5 lakh people affected in nearly 1,400 villages due to the consistent rainfall.

Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA) said in its flood report that two persons drowned on National Highway-31 under Bilasipara revenue circle in Dhubri district while two were killed in Kokrajhar district.

The districts which been affected include Dhemaji, Kokrajhar, Chirang, Lakhimpur, Tinsukia, Dibrugarh, Bongaigaon, Sivasagar, Sonitpur, Barpeta, Jorhat, Goalpara, Morigaon, Dhubri, Kamrup, Golaghat and Darrang.

The worst hit is Bongaigaon district with over 1.68 lakh persons affected, followed by Kokrajhar with more than 1.64 lakh people bearing the brunt, ASDMA said.
