Four detained in Punjab: Ranaghat case


Kolkata: Four Bangladeshis have been detained in Punjab’s Ludhiana on Tuesday in connection with the gang rape of a 72-year-old nun in Ranaghat in West Bengal’s Nadia district.

“Four persons, all Bangladeshi nationals, were detained from Motinagar locality by Punjab Police,” said DCP Naveen Singla in his statement.

The two men arrested by the police prior were also Bangladeshi nationals, one of whom was arrested from West Bengal and the other from Mumbai. The first suspect, identified as Sikander Sheikh alias Salim, was picked up from Nagpada area in south Mumbai by West Bengal police in coordination with their Mumbai counterparts.
The Bengal CID has sent a team to Punjab to interrogate the detainees.
