Former Tamil Nadu Minister arrested for Engineer’s suicide


Chennai: Former Tamil Nadu Minister SS krishnamoorthy was arrested on Sunday in connection with the suicide of a senior government engineer. Krishnamoorthy was removed from the cabinet and has been stripped of all his party posts over allegations that he had put pressure on Engineer S Muthukumaraswamy to appoint drivers of his choice. The engineer had allegedly committed suicide by jumping in front of a moving train.

The opposition parties had demanded a CBI inquiry into the incident. A chief engineer of the Agricultural Department named Senthil has also been arrested in connection with the case.

Muthukumaraswamy was a senior engineer of the Agricultural department. He was 58 and was well respected in the society. His son Vinod said that days before he died, his father used to receive numerous calls from his boss, the Chief Engineer Senthil.

The CID of the state police is investigating the case. The opposition said that the calls reveal that he had clashed with the minister’s office which was allegedly demanding bribes in return of the jobs within the agricultural department.
