Former State Transport Minister Passes Away

Barrackpore: Former state transport minister Ranjit Kundu has passed away at 1:10
pm on Sunday.

A resident of North 24 Parganas’ Naihati, Ranjit had enterred politics through
student protests. Later on, he became a member of Marxist Communist Party.

In 1996, he won the Vidhan Sabha election and became an MLA. After this he again
won from Naihati constituency in 2001 and 2006. In August 2009, the then transport
and sports minister Subhash Chakraborty had passed away. He then took charge of the
state transport portfolio. He was in power for 19 months.

Ranjit Kundu was a minister of Buddhadeb Bhattacharya’s ministry. In 2011 also, he
fought for Vidhan Sabha’s election.
