Former Assam minister arrested in assault case

Guwahati: Congress MLA and former minister Siddique Ahmed was arrested and remanded to judicial custody for 6 days in connection with an assault case, on Wednesday.
Siddique’s bail plea was rejected by Karimganj court on Wednesday. The court had earlier issued a non-bailable warrant against the MLA. He had approached Gauhati High Court earlier this year and got temporary relief. He was later admitted to a hospital following an accident.

The court, however, subsequently issued fresh non-bailable warrant against him and directed him to appear by April 30, 2015.

The original charge sheet of the case did not contain the name of Ahmed and the complainant objected to this with the court issuing summon to the MLA for appearing in connection with the case.

Assam Police had earlier this month searched Ahmed’s official residence in Guwahati.
