Kolkata: The probe into the death of Dankuni’s Sanjay Roy gained momentum on Tuesday with the cops summoning one of the top officials allegedly involved in the ‘alleged’ negligence on the part of the Apollo Hospitals.
The sleuths of the Phoolbagan police station summoned Rupali Basi, the former CEO of the Apollo hospitals for investigation. As per reports, she has been asked to present herself before the police station before 12 noon today. But Rupali Basu would be present after 2pm as per the police. Apart from her, another doctor from Apollo has also been summoned today.
Just when the controversy surrounding Hoogly’s Dankuni’s Sanjay Roy reached its heights, Rupali Basu resigned from her post on March 2 this year. The relatives of deceased Sanjay Roy had accused Apollo Hospitals of putting him in ventilation in the name of a CT scan just in order to earn extra money. The total bill had amounted to almost 7 lakhs. Post this; they had decided to shift Sanjay to the SSKM. With the help of TMC MP Avishek Banerjee, they succeeded in getting a bed at SSKM and decided to shift Sanjay there. But the Apollo officials allegedly refused to let Sanjay go as a huge sum of money of the bill was yet to be submitted. This led to a delayed shifting of Sanjay to the SSKM hospital following which Sanjay Roy passed away later at SSKM.
Deceased Sanjay Roy’s wife Ruby Roy filed several complaints against Apollo starting from the hospital’s alleged negligence in the treatment till forceful acquisition of money from her. On the basis of the complaint filed by her, the Phoolbagan police begun their investigation. They asked Apollo to submit all details and documents on the treatment provided till history of the expenditure of each tests conducted. A six member committee was formed to probe into the matter with the special Secretary of the Health Department Subir Chatterjee given the top spot.
Sources suggest that details regarding the treatment, accusations of excessive billing without its respective tests, and several such questions have been drafted by the cops. These would be asked to Rupali Basu. If any discrepancy is suspected, she might get arrested.
