Kolkata: In a novel move, the Bengal Government has decided to make food made by inmates of correctional homes in the State available at the State secretariat, Nabanna, and at entertainment hotspots like Eco Park and Nalban.
This project will be jointly run by the Departments of correctional administration and fisheries. The latter would supply the raw materials and provide the culinary training.
The Fisheries Department will train a few selected inmates in the cultivation of fish at various water bodies, both inside as well as outside the correction homes.
The food will be made available through the outlets of the State Fish Development Corporation (SFDC) as well as sold via food vans. The menu will include delicious items like pabdar jhal, dab chingri, tel koi, bhetki paturi, fish fry, fish finger, fish pakoda, fish batter fry, fish biryani, among other items.
The venture will initially be initiated through a pilot project involving the inmates of Dum Dum Central Correctional Home and then replicated at other homes.
