Kolkata: Five Sri Lankan Tamils who are believed to be the members of LTTE were arrested on Saturday by the Special Task Force of the Kolkata Police. They were arrested by police who arrested the five from a hotel in Chadni Chowk.
The five will be produced before court on Sunday. Through an interrogation of the arrested Tamils, Police have come to know that they were associated with the LTTE four years back and have now left the organization. Fake identity cards were recovered from them although no clue regarding their involvement with any terrorist activity has been found by the STF.
They had obtained fake identity cards claiming them to be the residents of Tamil Nadu. According to the investigators, the three among the five were the residents of Jaffna while the rest are from Kilinocchi district.
According to sources, a resident of Tamil Nadu was arrested by Police on Friday at NaxalBari near the Indo-Nepal border. During interrogation he revealed about the persons in the Chadni Chowk hotel. High alert was issued throughout the country for terrorist attacks during the Independence Day celebrations. There also have been reports of LTTE links with the Maoists.
