Mumbai: Five members of a family were killed on Monday, after their house collapsed owing to the heavy rains which continued to lash western Maharashtra on Monday as mudslides and rockfalls tormented the State.
According to reports, the tragedy occurred around 5.30 a.m. in Mohachiwadi village near the township of Neral, which is the gateway to the hill station of Matheran.
All five members were instantly killed in the tragedy which was triggered due to heavy rain in the last few days.
The dead were identified as Kisan Dighe, his wife Sunanda, their children Swapnesh and Archana and Mr. Dighe’s elderly mother Jaibai, said police sources.
The unremitting rain has hit the coastal districts of Ratnagiri and Sindhudurg in the Konkan belt particularly hard for the past five days.
