Shimla: First foreign Bahu of Nehru family, Shobha Nehru died at a ripe age of 109 years, at Kasauli town of Solan district in Himachal Pradesh on Tuesday morning between 4.30am and 5am. She was stated to be the oldest surviving Jewish woman in World.
Born Magdolna Friedmann in Budapest, Hungary, she became Shobha Nehru after marrying BK Nehru in 1935 whom she had met in Oxford University as a student. It was in 1987 that B K Nehru, Indian Diplomat and Governor, had bought the bungalow at Lower Mall road of Kasauli where she breathed her last.
During winters she used to shift to Chandigarh and Gurgaon to live with her sons while she used to spend summers in Kasauli. Sources said that her last rites would be performed on Wednesday.
Many a time Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi has visited Kasauli to meet Shobha Nehru. In May 2016 Rahul Gandhi had visited Kasauli to meet her.
