Firing At Islampur School, Student Dead


Islampur: Ruckus broke out at Islampur Dwaribhita High School premises on Thursday over the recruitment of teachers leaving one student dead and several injured.

It is being alleged that the students resorted to road block over the issue of
school teacher’s recruitment. On trying to forcefully trying to withdraw the block,
brawl broke out between both the parties.

The students pelted stones at the police. The police retaliated by resorting to
lathi-charge and also fired rubber shots and tear gas shells to disperse the mob. At
least two thousand students were protesting. The situation turned violent. A huge
police force rushed to the spot. Ten were left injured along with four police

The deceased student has been identified as Rajesh Sarkar (27), a former student of
the school.

It is being alleged that three teachers were being recruited for the Urdu language.
But the students alleged that there were no Urdu-language students in the school.
They also pointed out that the school needed Bengali language teachers instead. With these accusations, the students started protesting.

The students started protesting and blocking the road near to the school. A huge
force of the Islampur police station reached the spot which made the situation
worse. The students claimed that in a previous road blockade protest, the then head
master had assured them that no Urdu teacher will be brought to the school.

Despite the promise, the Urdu teachers joined the school on Thursday. Sticking to
their demand, the students clearly stated that they will not allow the Urdu
teachers to join the school. The premises turned into a battle-ground on this issue
on Thursday.
