Fire In Mumbai Shop Kills 12, Many Feared Trapped

Mumbai: While the nation is glued to outs TV sets to get a blow-by-blow account of the Gujarat and Himachal Pradesh elections vote count, at least 12 people have died this morning in a fire that broke out in an industrial estate in Mumbai.

According to news agency ANI, a fire broke out at a shop in a cluster on Khairani road in Mumbai in the early morning hours.

Further details are awaited. The source of the fire is not yet known. More than two fire brigades have reached the spot, say reports.

This area has a number of commercial units clustered in an area that is ill-planned. There have been fire incidents reported from here in the recent past and fire safety norms are often overlooked in these unregulated units.
