Fire Minister Firhad Hakim Makes Fire Audit & Drilling Compulsory

Kolkata: After several recent fire incidents in the city, the state government has made fire drilling and audit compulsory in office, shopping malls, hospitals and high-rises.

New fire services minister Firhad Hakim announced that fire drilling will have to be done every three months and a fire audit once every year. Firhad Hakim at the Vidhan Sabha Press Corner, addressed media persons and said, “It has been seen in many cases that water tanks are there but with no water. And by showing all these they take the certificates. But this time that cannot happen. Fire drilling will have to be done every three months. If needed, a law on this matter will be brought.”

The minister also said that a map while entering any building will be compulsory. It must be mentioned in the map where the water sources are. Hence, if there is any fire incident, then the fire tenders will find it wasy to use the water and douse the flames.

On the other hand, the minister also made important announcements in case of modernisation of the fire services department. He said that a GPS service will be started. Information about a fire incident will go to the nearest fire station through this GPS immediately. After this the fire tenders will rush to the spot immediately. This will be started in the next 2-3 months.

To bring speed in the fire services, online service were started much earlier. The new minister took it to another level. He announced that from now on, licenses will be available online which will have to be taken within 30 days. If anyone’s fire license gets cancelled, then one can get to know about it online.
