Massive Fire Breaks Out in Mumbai, Explosions Heard


Update: Two people have died in a massive fire that broke out in a slum area in Kandivali suburb of north Mumbai today and triggered a series of gas cylinder explosions.

The blaze was first reported around 12:30 pm and is still raging. 16 fire engines were rushed to the site in Damu Nagar area of Kandivali. The place is said to house a number of godowns.

TV channels are reporting that twelve fire engines have been rushed to the spot and a probe is on to ascertain cause of fire. There is no clarity yet how the fire originated.

According to Times Now reports, the cylinders were allegedly stored in a godown and the building is adjacent to the Western Express Highway.

Massive plumes of smoke have been blowing out of the building, say eye witnesses.
