Gaya: FIR filed against Manorama Devi under Child Labour Act after child was found employed at her residence on Wednesday. earlier, Minutes after the JD (U) leadership suspended MLC Manorama Devi from the party for “protecting a murder accused”, the lawmaker went into hiding as the state government ordered her arrest on Tuesday evening in connection with the recovery of Indian-made foreign liquor (IMFL) from her house in Gaya, 100km from Patna.
A directive to arrest the MLC and seal her house was issued to the Gaya district administration by the state excise department as sale, consumption and possession of liquor is an offence in Bihar. At least six bottles of IMFL were recovered from the MLC’s A P Colony house where police had gone looking for her son Rakesh Ranjan Yadav alias Rocky on Monday.
Rocky was on Tuesday morning arrested on the charge of killing a 19-year-old schoolboy after the Gaya trader’s son reportedly overtook the Range Rover of the MLC’s son in Gaya Police Lines area on May 7 night.
Earlier, state JD (U) president Bashishtha Narain Singh suspended the MLC from the party on the advice of party’s national president Nitish Kumar, who is also the CM of Bihar.
“Initial reports suggest the MLC was involved in protecting her accused son. She has acted against the rule of law. She has also violated the oath taken by Bihar legislators against alcoholism as bottles of liquor were found in her house during a police raid. The MLC has violated the law on prohibition,” Singh told TOI over the phone in Patna.
He said a show-cause notice would be issued to the MLC, asking her to explain her conduct in the entire episode involving the killing of Gaya youth allegedly by her son.
