Mumbai: Food and Drugs Administration of Maharashtra on Friday said that it has ordered an FIR against online marketing giant Snapdeal’s CEO Kunal Bahl and the directors of the company for selling medicines online, including prescribed drugs.
Harshadeep Kamble, FDA commissioner, said that the FIR has been ordered against the Bahl and the other directors of the company.
The FDA had earlier issued a notice to Snapdeal, asking it to furnish details of the drugs which are offered for sale at their website snapdeal.com. A raid was carried out at the snapdeal office after FDA received information that various medicines.
According to law, the drugs can be sold only by liscenced retailer on the basis of a prescription of a regular medical practitioner. Kamble said that online sale of drugs is prohibited since self-medication can be harmful.
