Darjeeling: Jan Adolan Party chief Harka Bhadur Chetri entered the booth with phone to cast his vote on Thursday. After the news came to the limelight, Election Commission removed the presiding officer of the booth. Later, the local administration ordered the FIR against Harka Bahadur Chhetri.
The second phase of the 17th Lok Sabha elections was held on April 18. Harka Bahadur Chetri came to cast vote at 110 number booth. At that time, he entered the booth with phone. The matter came to the notice of the Election Commission. The Commission was taking action quickly. The presiding officer of that booth was first removed. Then the local administration ordered the FIR against Harka Bahadur Chhetri.
It is to be noted that the use of the phone in the booth is prohibited by the commission. However, when asked about this issue Harka Bahadur Chetri said that he did not know the rules. At that time no one objected him. I would keep the phone off if they told me. Before elections, he promised that 11 tribes will be given the status of Scheduled Tribes while coming to power and will be seen considering the long-standing demands of the hill residents.
