Filipina wins Transgender Pageant in Thailand

Bangkok: World’s largest transgender pageant has crowned Filipina Trixie Maristela as Miss International Queen 2015 on Friday. Defeating 26 other participants, the 29 year old won the Champlain where Brazil and Thailand took second and third position respectively.

As a conventional culture, Thailand has no laws for same sex union. But in entertainment industry many members of transgender community have played prominent character.

Wearing a glittering red and beige evening gown Maristela said,” I’m very thankful to be given this chance to win Miss International Queen which is a very prestigious pageant for transgenders like us”.

Thailand’s contestant, Sopida Siriwattanukoon, granted. “Some other countries still find third gender women a laughing stock,” she thought, “We each have our own talent to offer.”

Japanese contestant Ryo Mizuno told Reuters before the show in the Thai beach town of Pattaya, “In other countries, like Thailand, transgenders are very well accepted. Not like in Japan”.
