Update: Fierce encounter is raging between the army and terrorists, who are hiding at a house located within 800 meters from the Tangdhar army base. It was reported that five to seven terrorists are hiding in the house.
Forces cordoned off the area and an encounter is raging.
Srinagar: The Indian army on Sunday intercepted a group of heavily armed guerrillas in Kashmir’s Kupwara district, triggering a fierce gunbattle which is still raging on over the Line of Control (LoC).
“Army troops intercepted a group of heavily armed militants on the LoC in Tangdhar sector of Kupwara district on Sunday morning,” a senior police officer said here. “When challenged, the militants resorted to firing at the troops resulting in a fierce gunbattle that is still going on.”
No reports of any casualties have been received yet. Additional forces have been also rushed to the area to haunt down the infiltrators.
