Kolkata: Several areas remain waterlogged on Tuesday, as the city received torrential downpour last evening, resulting in disruption of normal civic lives.
Heavy rains have been lashing parts of the city since Monday evening. Overnight downpour left many areas inundated. Daily commuters faced hassles as the traffic came to a standstill.
Major arterial roads of the city are submerged,which includes Strand Road,Amherst Street,Bidhan Sarani,College Street,Southern Avenue,Jadavpur,Bansdroni and sections of Behala. Uprooted trees caused the traffic to be diverted from Gariahat,Sarat Bose Road. Kolkata Corporation have been prompt in their cleaning work.
Eastern and South-Eastern railway services have been temporarily stalled. 52 trains from Howrah stands cancelled, as reported by the Railway division. Both up and down trains are running behind their expected timings.Few long distance trains are scheduled to depart from Santragachi station. Tikiapara Carshed remains waterlogged, causing interference in the signaling systems.
