Kolkata: A dog lover always wants to feed their furbabies wherever they see them. It is a kind deed of course to feed these companion animal. Many kind souls have been seen spreading this kind of warmth across the city but now it may cause a huge pocket pinch for them. Feeding a stray dog may lead you to pay two thousand rupees fine. Yes its true. Such a notice has been issued in Kolkata that has created a fuss across the city.
Few years ago the authorities of Presidency college had taken measures to prohibit stray dogs in the college premises, but the students protested against this, later a PIL was also filed which is now pending in court. Now a leading government college of Kolkata Lady Brabourne has issued a ban on feeding stray dogs, the authority has informed that one has to pay two thousand rupees fine for feeding stray dogs in the college premises. As per college source, meanwhile two students have already fined for this.
According to the college authority, many people are scared of dogs, some have been bitten by them and some were injured while running in fear. Several complaints have come to us.
This decision has been taken for the safety of the people. Although, this matter is completely unknown to West Bengal Education Minister Partho Chatterjee. He said that “In don’t know anything about this, I got to know this from you, if they were facing problem with the dogs then they could have reported it to KMC or to us, I don’t know why did they do so. Let me see this.”
The animal lovers thus claims that this act of issuing ban on feeding stray dogs is completely illegal. They also believes that both animal protection act and the rights of Indian citizens are being violated.
