Explosives Found in Manipur, 7 Militants Arrested


Imphal: Explosive materials including four detonators, five meter-long insulated wire, an empty tin fish container and some iron nails which could be used in fabricating improvised implosive device (IED) were recovered near the main entrance gate of Regional Medical Sciences (RIMS) Hospital in Lamphelpat in Imphal West District by the Police, reports The Hindu on November 9.

Separately, a powerful Chinese hand grenade was found in Laijing Ningthouba Ground in election-bound Thangmeiband constituency under Imphal West District on November 6, reports Morung Express. By-election to the constituency will be held on November 21. A Police bomb squad later retrieved the grenade and defused, according to the report.

In a separate incident, Security Forces (SFs) arrested two cadres of Kangleipak Communist Party – Poirei (KCP-P), identified as Laishram Inao Singh alias Loya (30) and Konjengbam Amar Singh alias Nanao (30) from Meitram in Wangoi Tehsil of Imphal West District on November 6, reports Kanglaonline. Investigations revealed that both were involved in extortion of money from general public and business establishments of Imphal area and also involved in threatening the general public by using fire arms and explosives to extort money for party fund, Police said.

Meanwhile, a combined team of Bishnupur Commando and Assam Rifles (AR) arrested a woman militant of United National Liberation Front (UNLF), identified as Salam Ichan Devi alias Abem (22) from Nganukon area in Bishnupur District on November 6, reports Kanglaonline.

Troops of Red Shield Division arrested one Kanglei Yawol Kanna Lup (KYKL) militant, identified as Oinam Ibungo Meitei (34) from Kangwai Mamang Leikai in Churachandpur District during operation on November 5, reports Morung Express.

Assam Rifles (AR) arrested one militant belonging to Revolutionary People’s Front (RPF), identified as ‘Corporal’ Athokpam Naoba (25) along with four rounds of 7.62 mm from Keibi village area in Imphal East District on November 5, reports Morung Express.

In another operation, an active cadre of UNLF, identified as Khumukcham Milkyson Singh (25) was arrested by a team of Thoubal District Police commandos from Kakching bazaar in Thoubal District on November 4, reports Morung Express.

Also, AR along with Imphal West Police Commandos arrested one cadre of Naga National Council (NNC), identified as Lt Poujianiung Kamei (25) at Konthoujam in Imphal West District on November 7, reports Morung Express. One mobile phone along with SIM card was recovered from his possession.
