Update: At least five people injured at scene of ‘explosion’ at Southgate Tube station in London

London: A tube station has been evacuated after an explosion with several people feared injured on Tuesday. The Met Police were investigating a suspicious package at Southgate Tube Station in Enfield, North London, tonight when an explosion happened.

People are being treated at the scene by ambulances, according to police. A witness said he outside Southgate station waiting for a bus when he smelled burning and saw people rushing towards the exits in a panic.

Emergency services including specialist police were scrambled to Southgate tube station just after 7pm. The Metropolitan Police said officers were still working to establish the cause of the reported explosion.

The force said the blast “appears to have been minor”, adding it was not aware of any serious injury.
