Explosion In North Delhi, 1 Dead


New Delhi: One person was killed and two others were injured in an explosion in north Delhi’s Naya Bazar area on Tuesday.

A senior police officer said the cause of the explosion was yet to be ascertained. Forensic teams and officers from the Special Cell are on the spot and collecting samples. Further details are awaited.

Delhi Police personnel have been maintaining a tight vigil in view of the festive season.

Initial investigations suggest that the blast could be due to a cracker burst. A lot of explosive materials, used in crackers, were found at the site of explosion, officer said.

Window panes of the surrounding buildings were damaged due to the impact of the blast.Police have not ruled out the possibility of terror angle. The police and fire departments were alerted about the blast around 10.45am.

Several police teams led by DCP Madhur Verma apart from fire officials and 3 fire tenders were rushed to the spot.

Delhi’s anti-terror wing, Special Cell, have also reached the spot. Crime and forensic teams have taken samples and the area has been cordoned off.
