Explosion Near IGP Office In Quetta, 13 Dead


Update: 13 killed in bomb blast in Pakistan’s restive Balochistan province.

Islamabad: At least five people have been killed and 14 wounded in a blast near the provincial police chief’s office in the Pakistani city of Quetta, hospital official said.

The cause of the blast has not been established, local media reported, adding that a car has been destroyed and windows of nearby buildings smashed due to the explosion.
“At least five people have died and 14 wounded,” Abdul Farooq, official at the Civil Hospital, where the wounded are being treated, said.

One policeman is among the dead, Muhammad Akbar, a local police official, confirmed. “They targeted a checkpost [near the IG office],” Akbar said. “Right now we do not yet have a detailed report on the nature of the attack [whether IED or suicide].”

Television footage showed emergency services rushing to the area which was covered in debris and security officials cordoning off the area.
