Kolkata: The fire is still raging at Bagri market in Burrabazar despite of numerous
dousing attempts for the past 8-9 hours. 30 fire tenders have been pressed into
service. 960 shops are completely gutted. But how did the fire breakout? Shocking
details emerge from the shop-owners.
As per sources, Gopal Bagri had the ownership of the Bagri market. Then the
ownership went to his grandson Raj Bagri. 960 shops are completely gutted. A brawl
was on for several days with the shops which were registered in the shopkeeper’s
On Saturday night, the shopkeepers’ association and the owners sat for a meeting
but no solution was meted out. Confederation of West bengal Trade Association
president Sunil Poddar was present in the meeting. He spoke about the brawl which
was on for several days. He also complained that no ronevation was done in the area
as it is a clumsy one.
The shopkeepers allege that this is a conspiracy to remove their shops. The fire
has been put as a part of the conspiracy as alleged by the shopkeepers. However,
the exact reason is yet not known. How did the fire break out is still to be found
out. The fire spread easily due to the presence of inflammable substances.
Efforts are still on to douse the flames. The fire tending officials are still
clueless on how and when the flames will be doused.
