Kolkata: Zooming side by side on the streets of Kolkata, several Electric vehicles on Thursday night focused on the need to address the severe pollution problem gripping the world at an alarming rate.
The EV rally organized on the eve of World Earth Day highlighted the remarkable technology of electric vehicles in saving the environment instead of the conventional diesel-petrol ones. The rapid rise in the number of diesel, petrol cars in Kolkata have weighed heavily on the environment and are costing the citizens in terms of health.
Eight families of Kolkata participated in the rally driving their electric vehicles from New Town to Victoria memorial celebrating World Earth Day.
Sandeep Ginoria, one of the organizers of the rally emphasized the need to reduce the use of diesel, petrol vehicles and stressed on electric vehicles, which runs on battery and thus does not create pollution.
He also said that by reducing our dependence on diesel, petrol cars we can lower the dependence on foreign import of oil.
Besides Kolkata, EV rallies were also held across India on the mid-night of 21st April. The members of Electrical Community took part in those rallies. 23 families in Delhi and Jaipur drove Hawa Mahal from India Gate on the occasion. 18 drivers from Bengaluru, 13 from Mumbai and 10 from Pune also participated in the rally.
The World earth Day is celebrated across the globe on April 22 to emphasize the need of a pollution free world. It has been first introduced by US Senator Geylord Nelson in 1970.
