London: The hosts of the ICC World Cup 2019 the England and Wales Cricket Board have announced a 15-man preliminary squad for the upcoming ICC mega event which will be played from May 30. The opening match of the tournament will be played between hosts England and South Africa.
England is the reigning no.1 ranked ODI team in the ICC rankings and ever since their embarrassing elimination from group stages in ICC World Cup 2015 in Australia and New Zealand; have transformed themselves into a scary ODI outfit. They have twice broken the world record for the highest team total in ODIs and currently hold the record with the score of 481/6, scored against Australia.
England team will be led by Eoin Morgan, who along with former ECB director of cricket Andrew Strauss is credited with changing the face of England’s limited overs team over the past 4 years. But now with players like Jonny Bairstow, Jason Roy, Moeen Ali, Ben Stokes and Morgan himself, the team is a scary prospect for opposition bowling lineups.
Jofra Archer has not been named in the preliminary squad for the World Cup, which comes as a surprise to many, given ECB changed their rules for his eligibility and he was touted to make his ODI debut for England against Pakistan in May.
