Kolkata: The land issues and encroachment issues are very much prevalent in the Metro Project. Some of these projects are looked after by RVNL. The Noapara-Barasat line looked after by the Metro Railways has over 500 encroachments. The following statements and the problems were brought up in an MCCI organized Interactive Session with Shri Radhey Shyam, General Manager, Metro Railway, Kolkata and SE Railway.
Some progress has taken place regarding land acquisition problem of Joka. The Majerhat to BBD Bag line is awaiting approval from Ministry of Defence and Finance for physical possession of land near KoPT and the stately heritage building. Business opportunities include hoardings, glow sign boards and LCD displays. There is a hindrance in the Noapara-Baranagar-Dakshineswar line – some water pipelines on B.T. road need to be removed. For the Viaduct project, construction of depot at Joka requires land to be available to the Metro Railways, was revealed in the session.
