Update: Mobile services suspended in Kulgam and Anantnag districts as encounter between hiding militants and forces rage in south Kashmir.

Srinagar: An encounter broke out between security forces and militants in south Kashmir’s Anantnag district on Thursday, police said.

A search operation was launched in Hassanpora village in Bijbehara area of Anantnag in the morning following specific intelligence inputs about the presence of militants in the village, a police official said.

He said as the security forces were conducting the search operation, the militants fired upon them triggering an encounter.

Firing was going on till last reports came in, the official said, adding further details were awaited.
