Srinagar: A fierce gunfight has broken out between security forces and terrorists in Jammu and Kashmir’s Shopian district, a day after another encounter in Budgam. The attack comes just days ahead of India’s 70th Republic Day celebrations.
According to sources, around 4-6 terrorists are believed to be holed up in Shopian’s Zainapora area and forces are engaging them in a fierce gunbattle. Security forces were conducting a regular combing operation when the terrorists started firing.
On Monday, terrorists opened fire at security forces in Budgam and two of them were killed in retaliatory firing. Pakistani military on Sunday once again violated ceasefire and resorted to unprovoked fired at Indian forces in Kathua and Rajouri districts of Jammu and Kashmir along the International Border and Line of Control. However, there were no casualties in the crossfire.
